ST&D Inclusion Statement
As a community, we strive to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive research society. We acknowledge that the inclusion of diverse members’ experiences and perspectives is paramount to success in scientific studies of text and discourse. As such, we support practices that serve to better understand and directly address issues of race, culture, ethnicity, national origin, gender expression and identity, sexual orientation, generation, disability, privilege and power differentials, and other identities reflective of diverse populations. To this end, we will:
- Promote representation within the Society’s leadership
- Promote research that addresses how diverse cultures and perspectives play a role in discourse processes in the Society’s Journal and Annual Conference
- Promote the training and mentorship of students from diverse grounds
In this, we affirm our commitment to promote goals of cultural humility, mutual respect, and social justice.
Equity and Diversity in Text and Discourse Travel Award
As one effort to support these goals, we have created an award to promote diversity within the Society for Text and Discourse by supporting research on Text and Discourse related to diversity as well as research by individuals from underrepresented groups. It is a significant travel award and provides up to $2500 to support scholars attending the annual conference. Students and faculty are eligible to receive it.
The announcement for the award is below and provides information on eligibility. If you or your students are interested in submitting a proposal that will be considered for the award, instructions on how to do so can be found on the EasyChair submission portal for the annual conference. The deadline for submissions is January 15th, 2023.
