ST&D Inclusion Statement

As a community, we strive to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive research society. We acknowledge that the inclusion of diverse members’ experiences and perspectives is paramount to success in scientific studies of text and discourse. As such, we support practices that serve to better understand and directly address issues of race, culture, ethnicity, national origin, gender expression and identity, sexual orientation, generation, disability, privilege and power differentials, and other identities reflective of diverse populations. To this end, we will:

  • Promote representation within the Society’s leadership
  • Promote research that addresses how diverse cultures and perspectives play a role in discourse processes in the Society’s Journal and Annual Conference
  • Promote the training and mentorship of students from diverse grounds

In this, we affirm our commitment to promote goals of cultural humility, mutual respect, and social justice.

As one step in promoting these values, we have created the Equity and Diversity in Text and Discourse Travel Award.
