Professor or Associate Professor of Adult Literacy – Georgia State University

As part of Georgia State University’s Second Century Initiative (2CI), we anticipate faculty openings for two scholars with established external funding and research in adult literacy. The 2CI program focuses on expanding the university’s priority research areas and includes support (start-up funding) and funded doctoral student fellowships. New faculty will add depth and breadth to the current federally-funded IES Center for the Study of Adult Literacy and to the newly developing College of Education & Human Development’s Adult Literacy Research Center (ALRC). Appointments are anticipated to begin Fall 2018.

Position Description: Faculty members will be hired at the rank of professor or associate professor
(possibility with tenure on appointment). Applicants are expected to have strong records of scholarship, funded research, excellence in teaching, and service in the areas of learning analytics, learning technologies and/or learning sciences in the contexts of family literacy, health literacy, basic literacy, workplace literacy, digital literacy, and/or numeracy. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to be part of a variety of adult literacy related initiatives in addition to their own research agendas.

Qualifications: A doctorate in relevant areas, such as learning sciences, learning analytics, cognitive science,learning technologies, artificial intelligence, computer science, educational psychology, language, and/or literacy is required. Upon hire, faculty members will be expected to conduct a successful, externally-funded research program that includes peer-reviewed publications in the area of adult literacy. Tenure can be considered in the College of Education & Human Development in an appropriate department.
