A position is available in the Research and Development Division of ETS.
ETS Research & Development has an opening for an Associate Research Scientist in the Center for Global Assessment. A primary focus of the research center is to contribute to externally-funded projects, as well as provide service to the program areas of ETS, which includes foundational and applied research. More specifically, the successful candidate will contribute to the conceptualization, development, and evaluation of innovative reading assessments. Existing research projects have resulted in large datasets on both components of reading (e.g., decoding, morphology, fluency) and higher-level measures of reading comprehension (e.g., multiple text, digital literacy). These datasets, which include longitudinal and cross-sectional data, are useful in understanding how reading develops over time and across grade levels. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to analyze, evaluate and publish on these large datasets, as well as contribute to new research proposals. We are seeking candidates who have a strong background in reading theory, assessment, and statistical modeling techniques. Knowledge and experience with analytic techniques such as structural equation modeling, latent class analysis, quantile regression, and item response theory are valued.
A Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, educational psychology, statistics, educational measurement or a related field specializing in research methodologies is required.
One (1) year of previous independent substantive research and/or development experience in the areas of cognitive psychology, educational psychology, reading, literacy, assessment, educational statistics, or mathematical/statistical psychology is required. Experience may be gained through doctoral studies.
